The present study is based on research that investigates evidence-based teaching of pain in high school. The changes proposed by the International Association for the Study of Pain and in a mixed methods review published in 2022 in the BJPT – guided this study. The objective of the research was to verify the importance of the pain theme addressed in high school textbooks. Therefore, a qualitative methodology was used, undertaking a descriptive study of Biology textbooks indicated by the National Textbook Program for a High School. The analysis considered the absence of a topic, concluding the need to create a didactic form for teaching pain in classrooms, seeking paradigm shifts and implementation of new concepts on the subject for the dissemination of the biopsychosocial model in the education of adolescents, promoting current tools for a broader condition of health care.
