Abstract

Number Talks (NT) are a didactic strategy that values students’ flexible reasoning, careful listening, and mathematical argumentation. This article analyzes how NT can contribute to inclusive mathematics education, based on a case study of a tenth-grade class in a public high school in São Paulo, Brazil, during a financial education activity on percentages. Grounded in the principles of Education for Equity and Critical Mathematics Education, this qualitative study uses a field diary, audiovisual recordings, and the self-assessment instrument "Reflection Time - Percentage," organized into narrative vignettes and analyzed through discursive textual analysis. The results indicate increased student participation, valuing different reasoning strategies, and strengthening metacognitive competencies, suggesting that NT is a promising approach for fostering collaborative and equitable learning environments.
